Even though the Duolingo English Test is six years old, lots of people still wonder if they can get a Study Permit or Study Visa with it or not. We will put this argument to an end in this article.

1. Ireland 

The Official site of the Duolingo English Test confirmed on 9 December 2021 that the DET is an English Language Standard for Irish Study Visa. In other words, if you want to study in Ireland, taking the Duolingo English Test is enough to obtain your Visa. So, let’s get your DET Ready today!

2. The US

In the US alone, there are almost 1,400 institutions that accept the DET as an English Proficiency certificate, including all well-known universities such as Yale, Colombia, Dartmouth, Berkeley, New York University, etc. 

Whether you get IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or DET; they are just English proficiency certificates that you need to pass the admissions process at your dream institution. Once your chosen university accepts and confirms your English level, you can be granted a Study Permit.

For example, in Ireland, the DET is officially an English Language Standard for Irish Study Visa. One important point to add, if your chosen university is a part of the DLI (designated learning institution) application process, you stand a better chance of achieving your Study Visa with the DET certificate.

4. The UK

Not too many universities in the UK accepted the DET certificates – around 67 to be specific, so you should check all information carefully on the Duolingo English Test official website before sitting for it. 

5. Australia and other countries 

Over a thousand DET accepted universities in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Italy, etc.,combined. And the number is steadily increasing on a daily basis.

It’s the same as requesting a Study Permit in Ireland, the US, the UK, or Canada. If your desired university accepts the DET, feel free to take it in order to get through the admissions process. If you receive a Letter of Offer and a Letter of Confirmation, it means the institution has tested and confirmed that your English skills are qualified to study at their campus. Therefore, the next step is to apply for your Study Visa by using the Letter of Confirmation.
